Adsense first attracts many people looking for a new way to earn some extra cash or to set up a new business because of its apparent simplicity. On the surface it is deceptively easy. For any web savvy person, or any person willing to spend the hours learning, it's certainly an attractive idea. That, I think is the Ying bit because if you put the work in you can and do learn all these new skills and learn that you will always be learning and will never know everything no matter how hard you try. The Internet is a constantly moving melting pot of knowledge and regeneration.

The Yang part of Google is the Adwords side where all those ads that adsense displays get added into the melting pot. Here you need to have done your homework or be prepared to pay an expensive lesson.

Without either side of this same coin there would be no adwords or adsense but when you are a newbie you need to be able to differentiate very clearly and early which side of the coin you are currently dealing with. Being on the adwords side requires one way of thinking and standing on the adsense side requires another way of thinking. You need to think only of the side you are currently facing.

I sometimes think of it like world politics where on one hand they are fighting for their lives and on the other they are sitting comfortably ensconced in armchairs trying to sort the argument through diplomatically. So make no mistake Google Adwords and Adsense are at war with each other in their intent.

As a Google Adwords user doing PPC marketing campaigns you need cost effective and as inexpensive as possible keyword costs.

As a Google Adsense Publisher you need as many clicks to high paying keywords on your websites as you can garner. Driving traffic to a website takes time, energy and money with no guarantee of any income for all your work.

Once you understand this Ying and Yang of Google you will be better positioned to withstand the publishing conundrum that Google represents.
